Manuel Payag Wins First Place at WorldSkills Australia Competition

Manuel Payag, representing TeamWA, has won gold in the VETis Wall and Floor Tiling category at the WorldSkills Australia Competition held in Brisbane.

During the competition, Manuel engaged in various activities over three days. The first day involved preparing materials and tools and meticulously drawing the shape of Australia on the given-coloured tiles. On the second day, he focused on finishing the drawing and cutting and shaping the tiles using a table tile saw and sanding tools. The final day was dedicated to applying tile glue to the wall, setting the tiles, and grouting the surface to complete the project.

Manuel said he found the experience incredibly rewarding, particularly enjoying the opportunity to meet new people and share the passion for his craft. The camaraderie and the shared enthusiasm made the event memorable for him.

Winning the gold medal was an amazing and proud moment for Manuel. His accomplishment is a testament to his hard work and skill, and he felt a great sense of pride in what he had achieved.

One of the aspects Manuel enjoys most about tiling is the artistic side, especially the drawing. The creative process of designing and bringing those designs to life is what he loves most about his craft.

Congratulations to Manuel Payag for his outstanding performance representing Girrawheen Senior High School and for bringing home the gold for TeamWA! His success is an inspiration to all aspiring tilers and a testament to the high standards of the WorldSkills Australia Competition.
