Girrawheen SHS Teams win the State Solar Car Challenge for the second year in a row!
In October, 13 Girrawheen SHS students in Year 7 and 8 entered 4 cars into the 2022 AGL State Solar Car Challenge held at the University of Western Australia. A total of 64 cars competed in the event.
Our teams placed 1st, 4th and 5th after having to race against each other in the heats.
We came 1st and 3rd, but as we discovered that our raw egg driver broke when we picked our car off the track, we were penalised and the other school was given 3rd position. We ended up coming 4th as a result.
1st place team: Edward Guo.
4th pace team: Rick Creemer, Htoo Soe, John Paul, Nadia Mozafari.
Hats off to our budding engineers who worked every recess and lunch time for many weeks to build their cars.
Girrawheen SHS has been asked to represent Western Australia in the International Solar Car Challenge happening in Tasmania in November. There is a lot riding on the international event in Tasmania, after Girrawheen SHS won first place in 2021 also.
Congratulations to all students involved as well as Mrs Pabla who has expressed that as a teacher, she could not have asked for a better group of students!
