Year 12 student, Elvana Gashi, talks about her Brisbane NYSF experience

Year 12 student, Elvana Gashi, shares a recap of her experience travelling to Brisbane to attend the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) below:

In January of 2026, I had the privilege of attending the National Youth Science Forum in Brisbane, a highly regarded program that brings together around 250 high achieving students from across Australia.

Throughout the program I engaged with medical professionals, researchers and chemical engineers, and participated in hands-on workshops and attended lectures spanning a broad range of STEM disciplines. The exposure to both medicine and engineering offered valuable insight into how different fields contribute to advancements in healthcare while also allowing me to connect with like-minded students from across the country. The friendships I formed were truly special and the experience was life changing and further strengthening my passion for pursuing a future in medicine.

Whilst the topics we learned about felt important, it was the connections and networking with other people which was the most valuable part of the experience for me.

Thank you to the National Youth Science Forum and Harding Miller Scholarship for covering all costs including travel and accommodation.
