A group of our wonderful Year 9 students have been privileged enough to participate in ABCN’s “GOALS” Mentoring Program again this year. The first session took place last week at Bankwest in Perth CBD. The students who took part were exemplary ambassadors of our school.
Ms D was delighted to escort the students on this excursion but was speechless when she realised that one of the “GOALS” mentors was indeed former Girrawheen SHS student, Philip Tran, who graduated in 2008. Philip has excelled in his career pathway, and he is currently the Lending Products Manager of Bankwest WA. Philip openly expressed his pride and gratitude towards Girrawheen SHS and is actively seeking ways he can give back to the school he holds so dear. Philip proudly told the group of current Year 9s how the skills and attributes that he developed whilst at our school, and particularly those he developed through Ms D’s Drama classes, were integral to his current role. He later said to Ms D, “I thought I would be asking another staff member about you today, not actually talking to you in person, so I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity of telling you what a huge part you played in helping me become the person I am today.”
We are so proud of Philip’s success and what he has achieved so far. When speaking with our Year 9s, Philip made it clear that anything is possible when you are willing to work hard and chase your dreams.
