WHAT DO WE DO?

We develop excellence in Dance and Drama and cater for diverse cultural backgrounds, individual differences and needs, for both beginner and experienced level students.

Within the program, students will participate in a variety of performances, take part in excursions and develop a critical understanding of the Arts.

Our teaching team are highly qualified industry professionals. We are committed to nurturing talented students so they can reach their full potential whilst contributing towards successfully achieving their WACE.

Students in Years 7,8, and Year 9 Semester 1 study both Dance and Drama. In Year 9 Semester 2 and 10, students may select 1 or both subjects as part of their learning program. The program strives to develop:

Auditions will be held on Orientation Day for Year 6s wishing to enter the program in Year 7.
Performing Arts Academy has limited placements available.

PERFORMING ARTS
ACADEMY DRAMA
YEARS 7, 8, 9,10

Our Drama Program enables students to develop performance and production skills, both independently and collaboratively in a supportive environment by expert teaching staff and industry professionals. Students are taught to become confident public speakers and develop their leadership skills.

The program partners with various industry professionals from Black Swan Theatre Company, WA Youth Theatre Company, ATYP (Australian Theatre for Young People, and the Constable Care Foundation. These partnerships provide opportunities for our students to engage in workshops with professional actors and teaching artists.

During timetabled Academy classes, students will become skilled at:

  • Improvising
  • Play building
  • Voice skills
  • Performing to a variety of audiences
  • Production and design skills
  • Movement skills
PERFORMING ARTS
ACADEMY DANCE
YEARS 7, 8, 9,10

Our Dance Program is designed to build students’ ability to develop dance technique. The program expands creativity and helps to increase fitness levels.

Students are assessed on works choreographed by industry professionals in addition to student designed dance pieces.

Students will be timetabled into these classes to:

  • Learn a range of dance genres (Hip Hop, Contemporary and Jazz)
  • Perform to an audience
  • Work with Dance Industry experts
  • Develop skills in costume design, makeup, music and staging
UNITY ELITE COMPETITIVE
DANCE & CHEER TEAM
SCSA ENDORSED PROGRAM

Our Unity Elite Dance Team is an extension of the Performing Arts Academy with students from Years 7-12 auditioning for the teams. Unity achievements include winners of Yohfest Dance, winners at National Dance and Cheer competitions held in the Gold Coast and State competitions in Perth. The program has a strong partnership with WAAPA, and has seen WAAPA awarding scholarships for individuals to attend short training courses.
