GIRRAWHEEN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

SCHOOL BOARD

Our School Board is a vibrant organisation consisting of members of education, business, community groups and parents of GSHS students, who help to establish and review the school's objectives, priorities and general policy direction.

The Board aims to achieve the best outcomes and the highest quality of education for the students of the school, and is also an important link between the school and members of the government, the Department of Education and community groups.


BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create the School Business Plan to define what the school would like to achieve and what we need to do to get there
  • Review and endorse the annual school budget
  • Assist with formulating codes of conduct for staff and students
  • Review the performance of the school and hold one open meeting each year to report to the school community
  • Promote and create interest in the school within and across the community
  • Assist with Principal selection when a vacancy arises
  • Approve fees, charges, contributions and items for personal use (e.g. book lists)
  • Liaise with other committees within the school e.g. the P&C
  • Provide advice to the Principal on religious education and related activities

NOT RESPONSIBILITY FOR

  • Manage the day-to-day running of the school. e.g. it does not employ staff or decide which classes students will be assigned to
  • Discuss or resolve issues relating to individual teachers, students or parents
  • Represent specific interest groups or permit special interests to dominate the agenda of the Board
  • Intervene in the educational instruction of students
  • Purchase land, buildings or vehicles or obtain credit or financial agreements unless permission is given by the Education Minister
  • Performance-manage the Principal or any other staff member

Allan is a champion of youth development in the community; being a member of the Rotary Club of Heirisson, district chairperson of the National Youth Science Forum and Director of Vocational Service & Youth Programs for Rotary Club of Heirisson. Allan has business experience in banking, finance, sales and management.
