Community Services

Students at our school have the opportunity to earn a Certificate II Community Services at Balga Senior High School.

The course prepares students to work with children - teaching, nursing, child care or parenthood. The program is both theoretical and practical and students enjoy frequent visits to the Balga Teen Family Centre to interact with staff and children.

This program must be completed in conjunction with Workplace Learning.

Students are provided with the opportunity to develop the following skills:

  • Fundamentals of Child Development
  • Learning Experiences to Aid Support children's play and learning
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Occupational Health & Safety Procedures
  • Learning about Policies, Procedures and programs of an organisation.
  • Preparation for Work in the Community Sector
  • Learning to Communicate with people accessing the services of the organisation.
  • Working with Others
  • Communicating with Children
  • Nutrition for Children
  • Ensuring children's health and safety

On completion of the course students are eligible to work in a Child Care Centre or can enrol in a Certificate III at a State Training Provider or pursue university entrance.
