Vietnam ANZAC Trip

The school made its inaugural trip to Vietnam in 2012 and we were the first Western Australian school to visit the Long Tan Memorial Cross for the ANZAC Day dawn service.

With a great many of our students coming from a Vietnamese background, we are proud to celebrate our cultural diversity in this way and we hope to be able to continue this new tradition. It was hoped the Vietnam Trip would become a bi-annual tour resulting in another trip taking place in 2014.

The Vietnam Trip facilitates deeper understanding of ANZAC traditions and allows invaluable cultural awareness for our students and staff. Some students have further represented the school on Long Tan Day (August 18) at the service in King"s Park. Again the students have been instrumental in special school assemblies where Vietnam veterans both from the Australian forces and the South Vietnamese forces have attended.

Students have the opportunity to attain an Endorsed Program (in Years 10- 12) which adds to the WACE qualifications.

Students also visit the kindergarten and school for which our Student Council raises money. This Australian Vietnam Veterans (living in Vung tau) organization has welcomed our students and representatives have accompanied our tour around Nui Dat, Long Tan and other significant Vietnamese sites where Australians fought. This has allowed our students to be further immersed in this important part of our Anzac tradition.

Overall the students have the opportunity to make lasting friendships, be responsible within a team, be more worldly and appreciative of their own life opportunities, have amazing and shared memories, and take on the Anzac tradition as a lifelong value.

We encourage students if possible to participate in this event.
